Islands Merchants are easily recognized.

Albion Online contains 2 types of islands; non-instanced island regions and instanced player islands including guild islands and personal islands. This article covers the aspect of instanced player islands.

Islands are a premium feature that can be purchased from the Island Merchant located in all player towns. To purchase and upgrade an island, the character must have or once had an active 30-day premium status. Each character is allowed one island. Once an island is purchased, it is retained regardless of premium status. Once purchased, an island can be upgraded up to level 6. Each upgrade will increase the cost in silver and take 2 minutes to complete. Upgrades are performed by the same Island Merchant used to purchase the island. Travel to an island is free when completed through the same player town that the island was purchased from. Player islands can support up to tier 8 structures and are safe from PvP. Islands include a robust permission system that allows you to control who has access to the islands, as well as the plots, and to what degree.

Personal Island

To purchase a Personal Island, the character has to have bought (using either Silver, Gold or real money) a minimum of 30 days Premium at least once.

Personal islands have 6 levels, with each level containing more plots and costing more silver to upgrade. Additionally, after upgrading to level 2, the personal island will contain a Farming Merchant, where the character can buy Seeds, Animals and Decorations.

Upon upgrading a personal island, the island will be unavailable for approximately 2 minutes, while it is being upgraded.

Deleting an island

In some cases, players may want to delete their island in favor of a new location. Players can delete their island by returning to the same Island Merchant used to purchase the island and choose "abandon". Before abandoning the island, make sure to demolish all buildings, farms, etc. By doing that, you will be able to recover 90% of the materials used to construct. After 1 minute of demolition, the materials will appear in a basket that you can retrieve.

Guild island

Guild islands are larger and cost more to purchase and upgrade. Unlike personal islands, guild islands do not include any farming plots. Since buildings require food to be maintained, this means personal islands play at least one vital role that is not available for guild islands. On the other hand, guild islands include a Market Place and a storage chest. Like all chests, storage is local to the guild island only. Likewise, the Market Place is localized to the guild Island alone, meaning it is for Guild members and those who have been granted access onto the island. The guild island is the only island where a Guild Hall can be built. This hall functions similarly to a large house, where many chests can be stashed and laborers can be employed.
