General Information

The Master's Hoarfrost Staff is a Tier 6 Frost Staff which may be obtained by crafting or via the Market Place.

There are three options for the Q spell slot: Frost Bolt (First), Hoarfrost (First), and Ice Shard (First)

There are four options for the W spell slot: Frost Bomb (Second), Frost Nova (Second), Frost Beam (Second), and Shatter (Second)

There is one option for the E spell slot: Avalanche (Third)

There are four options for the passive slot: Frost (Passive), Energetic (Passive), Aggressive Caster (Passive), and Furious (Passive)

The Master's Hoarfrost Staff may have different Item Quality ranging from Normal to Masterpiece

The Master's Hoarfrost Staff Item Quality may be increased at a Repair Station for a fee

21 November 2022Beyond the Veil UpdateHoarfrost Staff was underused since its last rework. Its cooldown was high relative to its effects, so this has been significantly decreased. Since Ice Crystal damage was significantly delayed, it could easily be reflected, making it risky for large fights. Its damage is now un-reflectable. Additionally, the Damage Increase duration of Frostbite is increased, so the buff no longer falls off as easily.
  • Frostbite (all Frost Staffs):
    • Damage Increase Duration: 2.5s → 4s
  • Avalanche (Hoarfrost Staff):
    • Cooldown: 30s → 20s
  • Ice Crystal (Permafrost Staff):
    • Damage can no longer be reflected
5 October 2022Into the Fray Patch 7Frozen Surge remained very much underused since its recent rework. This Q-ability was designed to sacrifice some damage output for its kiting and slowing potential. However, its previous damage was likely still too low, so its damage has been increased a little.

    25 April 2022Lands Awakened Patch 8Frost Staffs were dominant in various areas of the game. With their peak damage output when stacking multiple cast time modifiers, they outshone most other ranged DPS. While keeping this playstyle generally intact, the damage output of Ice Shard has been reduced slightly, to lower the peak DPS that Frost Staffs can reach. In addition, as Freezing Wind had a large CC area on a relatively low cooldown, this cooldown has been increased.

    Once one of the most feared weapons in large-scale fights, the Glacial Staff has unfortunately fallen off the meta significantly. To help bring back this unique playstyle, the damage output has been increased, and some utility improvements have been made including increased cast range and making cast direction independent of cast position.

    • Ice Storm (Glacial Staff):
      • The cast direction can now be chosen after the cast position
      • Cast range: 5m → 10m
      • Ice Storm travel distance: 23m → 18m
      • Damage per Tick (vs players): 60 → 72
      • Damage per Tick (vs mobs): 20 → 25

    Freezing Wind has a much larger area that also stays on the ground briefly, making it easier to hit enemies or block choke points. To offset this significant buff and allow for more counterplay, the root will now not instantly affect the target, but instead stacks up quickly, so it is possible to blink out before getting rooted.

    Hoarfrost has struggled with its unique identity among the other Q abilities. With this patch it now has a 6m AoE radius, making it the best Q ability to spread damage among multiple enemies. This makes it less powerful in focusing down one target, but adds constant pressure to enemy healers as it hits multiple targets repeatedly.

    • Hoarfrost (all Frost Staffs):
      • Cast Time: 2s → 1.8s
      • Damage to main target: 150
      • Splash Damage to other enemies in the AoE 150 → 110
      • Radius: 4m → 6m
      • Cast Range: 14m → 12m

      • Area size and duration increased
      • Area no longer roots instantly - instead applies 3 cc stacks in quick succession:
